NASW Social Work Pioneers®
Regina Cohn Collins (1898-1993)
Mrs. Collins devoted over 50 years to the development of psychiatric
social work in agencies, clinics, medical schools and public schools. She had a
distinguished career as a social worker and teacher.
Some of the places Mrs. Collins was employed: Childrens Aid in Denver, Colorado;
Social Work Services, Colorado Psychiatric Hospital; Child Guidance Clinic, Colorado
Springs, Colorado; Social Work Services, University of Kentucky Medical School; Social
Work Services, Langley Porter Clinic, University of California Medical School; and Denver
Public Schools, Chief Social Worker, Denver, Colorado. She supervised social workers,
social work students, and medical students.
Mrs. Collins attended the New York School of Social Work, and later graduated with a
masters degree from University of Pennsylvanias School of Social Work.
