Eileen Blackey Doctoral Fellowship

Guidelines

One $2,000 fellowship will be awarded in the 2008-2009 academic year to a social work doctoral candidate whose dissertation focuses on welfare policy and practice. Dissertations that include a diversity component are encouraged.

To be eligible, students must be an NASW member and enrolled in an accredited social work/social welfare doctoral program. The fellowship is awarded for one academic year, to begin in September 2008, and will be disbursed in two installments (September and January).

Applications for the 2008-2009 fellowship and scholarship awards will be accepted January 7 - March 14, 2008. Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. March 14th. The package should consist of the original documents and four copies of the complete application package . Only complete applications will be reviewed. 

Application materials will not be returned

 


Application Requirements

  1. NASW member in good standing (please enclose a copy of your current NASW membership card). Awardee must remain a member in good standing throughout the award period.
  2. Application form
  3. Three-page proposal summary (double-spaced). The summary must include objectives of the project, statement of relevance and significance, project design and methodology, and the expected dissertation completion date.
  4. Written statement from dissertation advisor verifying approval of dissertation proposal.
  5. Student profile or curriculum vitae.
  6. Signed release of information.
  7. Application checklist.

Criteria

Only completed applications will be considered
. Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance and timeliness of project, i.e., need in the field; Quality of project design, and;
  • Potential for completion.
